Guest Blogger, Susana Ellis, Interviews her Character Lady Theresa

Susana (to the Reader): This morning I have the honor of speaking with Lady Theresa, daughter of the Earl of Granville, who is gracious enough to speak with us about the developments at Granville Manor. (To Lady Theresa): First of all, I must inquire after your father’s health. I understand he has suffered an attack of some sort?

Lady Theresa (shaking her head): Unfortunately, that is correct. He is very ill at present, but his spirits have improved since Lord Clinton’s arrival a week ago.

Susana: Lord Clinton? The one who dared to criticize Beau Brummell’s attire in front of the Prince Regent?

Lady Theresa (with an unladylike snort): The very one. He’s my father’s heir, you see. A distant cousin.

Susana: I take it that you yourself are not overly impressed with Lord Clinton’s consequence?

Lady Theresa: Not in the least. Gentlemen of the ton are all glitter and no gold. I prefer a man with character, one who directs his efforts to producing rather just consuming. Someone like Reese Bromfield.

Susana: Reese Bromfield? The squire’s son? Didn’t he just get married?

Lady Theresa (heaving a deep sigh): Indeed. He and his bride are in Italy on their honeymoon.

Susana: Oh dear, I forgot that you and he were…well, I apologize for bringing it up.

Lady Theresa: No, no. I can tell that’s exactly what people are thinking when they see me. It’s in their eyes. They might as well be saying it to my face.

Susana: Your father is ill. Your intended just married another. And you must play hostess to the man who will inherit your father’s title and estate someday, a man you despise. How do you manage, my lady?

Lady Theresa: It is a struggle sometimes, but one must keep on going, after all. I can’t let Papa see me discouraged. And frankly, Damian—that is, Lord Clinton—has been on his best behavior since his arrival. He and Papa are as thick as thieves, and he’s proven to be quite amiable to the tenants and the village folk too.

Susana: And you?

Lady Theresa (blushing): He does look at me a great deal. Especially my eyes. But I’m sure that’s because there are no London ladies around to cast me into the shade. He’s quite the ladies’ man, you know.

Susana: I see.

Lady Theresa: Of course, my father hopes for a match between us, but that is out of the question, of course.

Susana: Is it?

Lady Theresa: Indeed it is. Lord Clinton would never wish for a wife who is so ill at ease in the ton, and I—well, pigs will fly before I wed a London fribble such as he!

Susana: Such a match would undoubtedly be very ill-advised.

Lady Theresa: Oh dear, is that clock showing the correct time? I really must be going, Miss Ellis. Damian—er, Lord Clinton—and I have an appointment with the vicar this morning. Thank you so much for coming to call today.

Susana: Thank you for being such a gracious hostess. And I send my best wishes for your father’s improved health.

About Susana Ellis:

A former teacher, Susana is finally living her dream of being a full-time writer. She loves all genres of romance, but historical—Regency in particular—is her favorite. There’s just something about dashing heroes and spunky heroines waltzing in ballrooms and driving through Hyde Park that appeals to her imagination.

In real life, Susana is a lifelong resident of northwest Ohio, although she has lived in Ecuador and studied in Spain, France and Mexico. More recently, she was able to travel around England and visit many of the places she’s read about for years, and it was awesome! She is a member of the Maumee Valley and Beau Monde chapters of Romance Writers of America.

Susana loves to hear from readers!
